About

Ah Ma Ho Liao is a Melaka-based local cuisine restaurant that has been in business since 2001. The smiling lady in the logo is the founder’s mother, who inspired the founder to open this restaurant in order to keep Ah Ma’s cooking recipe alive.

Challenge

Redesign the logo while retaining the iconic Ah Ma’s (grandmother) portrait.

Solution

To keep the brand authentic and clearly communicate Ah Ma Ho Liao’s origin, we kept the iconic character and added floral patterns because the founder’s mother’s favourite apparel is cloth with floral patterns. Aside from that, this Nyonya-style pattern is appropriate for representing Melaka.
